“I have an uncontrollable urge to paint.  So, I do. My painting is generally representational from being classically trained.  I have worked completely abstract to find that my brain wants to create the same compositions over and over looking for order or pattern.  I found myself looking back at life for something visually unpredictable to work from.   In my own work I feel like my strongest work is realism and figurative.  Figurative images automatically create a narrative of some sort even if there is only one figure in the painting.  We automatically as the viewer relate to the image of another human being.  In a sense, the construction of a good composition coupled with the control of the color pallet can be very abstract even if the image is completely representational and completely believable.  This is my goal…. To produce representational work that has abstraction in the composition, something unpredictable in the composition like Giocometti’s drawings, to create something believable with beautiful color like Euan Uglow, to create something with the psychological strength of Lucian Freud or Francis Bacon, to experiment and evolve like Matisse and Picasso.  And somehow still have the freshness of seeing something for the first time.”
